Bengtsgården - FarmhouseBengtsgården is an 18th century farmhouse built in the city centre. It was moved to Öjskogsparken in the 1970's and now offers a peak into 19th century everyday life. It has throughout history been owned by the Bengts family, whose best known member was painter Carl Bengts. From time to time Carl functioned as assistant to one of Finland's most famous painters Akseli Gallén-Kallela.
The ground floor offers two large rooms, shoemaker Karl Oskar Norrbäck's shop and a little chamber. The interior is consistent with a 19th century home wit items such as spinning wheels, carding combs and old kitchen utensils. The little chamber contains a 19th century wedding gown along with a wedding crown in silver. The crown was actually sown into the bride's hair on morning of the wedding day and since a wedding could go on for three days, she wore the crown until that!
Carl Bengts' room can be found in the attic, along with a room of old toys, prams and other items needed for childcare. Among other things there are dolls from America, and German dolls made from macaroon porcelain.
